The One And Only Standard Part 3

Joh 14:15 " 'If you love me, you will keep my commandments.' "

"But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing." (Jas 1:25)

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome." (1Jn 5:3)

"And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it." (2Jn 1:6)

These verses also reflect why standards like "common decency" cannot hold up. Common decency reflects the understanding of (fallen and sinful) man, and not God's Law. Common decency is of course a changeable standard, as has been pointed out here, and has nothing to do with God's word. I "harpooned" it because it reflects "our own understanding" as opposed to God's Law-Word.

Pro 3:5-8 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones."
