Joshuah's House

On Kingdom Building In the Biblical Family Part 2

And this is what the creation ordinance and the respective line in Our Lord's prayer mean for our family:

First of all, the husband and father is our family priest, following the example of the patriarchs, like Abraham or Job.

"For I know him [Abraham], that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him." (Gen 18:19)

"And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually." (Job 1:5)

Since Christ is the only mediator between God and His people, there are no grounds for professional priesthood anymore (1 Ti 2:5-6). The husband and father is the one who baptizes the members of his households and remembers Christ in celebrating communion within the family (Lk 22:19). His responsibility is to ensure that all the members of the house walk in God's way (Mar 3:25; Lk 11:17). He does that by example and by teaching the word of God to His wives and children (Psa 78:1-8; Eph 6:4). Kingdom Building takes place first of all in the family as a whole, and within every member of the family.

Secondly, the family strives to grow in order to fulfill the creation ordinance and to be able to "speak with the enemies in the gate". (Psa 127:5) We do not believe that the state or the church have any say in how God's creation should be "run", but that each and every family is in charge. Our plural marriage family with one husband, up to 7 wives (Is 4:1) and as many children as possible lives and will live according to God's word and stand fast until the end, to be found worthy when Christ returns to build the thousand year reign of peace (Mat 24:13; Rev 20:2-6). Children are a blessing from God, and it is not our place to deny God the fruit of our wombs.

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." (Psa 127:3)

When it comes to the Scriptures, Mark Twain's remark applies in an interesting way:

"It is not what you do not know that will hurt you the most. It is what you think you know, but it just ain’t so!"
