Christ Our Redeemer Part 4

Easton's Bible Dictionary, which also comes for free with eSword, lists New Testament references to Christ's redemptive work:

"There are many passages in the New Testament which represent Christ's sufferings under the idea of a ransom or price, and the result thereby secured is a purchase or redemption (Compare Act 20:28; 1Co 6:19-20; Gal 3:13; Gal 4:4-5; Eph 1:7; Col 1:14; 1 Ti 2:5-6; Titus 2:14; Heb 9:12; 1 Pe 1:18-19; Rev 5:9). The idea running through all these texts, however various their reference, is that of payment made for our redemption."

Paul explains this clearly in his first letter to the Corinthians:

"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Co 6:20)

"For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men." (1 Co 7:22-23)

We are bought by the blood of Christ, to be servants, slaves of Christ forever. We do not belong to ourselves, but to God, and we are to do our Lord's bidding, that is, to keep His commandment, whereby we can show our love for Him.
