Head Covering Part 1

(main biblical references: Deu 21:22, Isa 3:24, Rom 14:13, 1 Co 11:3-16)

Yes, it might seem odd to modern Christian women to wear a head covering or veil, but if they were willing to follow the bible, one thing they ought to consider is modesty in dress, which includes head coverings. I will not expound on the whole matter of modesty in clothing. If you want to start thinking about it in earnest, read The Sin of Bath-Sheba first, and then look at all the biblical references to outward adornment and, by way of contrast, a whore's attire...

But I wish to comment on wearing a head covering here.

The bible refers to women being shorn as a sign of humbling and shame in the Old Testament (Deu 21:22; Isa 3:24), and in the New Testament this assessment is confirmed (1 Co 11:5-6). Hair is a woman's natural glory and covering, so shaving her is a disgrace, short hair even is a disgrace, unfitting for her.

Paul states clearly that being uncovered is a dishonor for a woman, being uncovered while praying or prophesying (1 Co 11:5). For him, a woman without a head covering could just as well go shaven, the shame would be the same. Her head covering is a sign of authority on her head (1 Co11:10), a sign that the woman is placed under the authority of her husband and through him, under the authority of Christ (1 Co 11:3).

Then why, you may ask, shall I wear a head covering all the time ? It seems as if I am only supposed to wear something on my head when I go to church.

Well, here is why I head covering all the time:
