What Is Child Abuse According to God's Standard ? Part 5
9. Forcing your children to start out at ground zero once they have reached adulthood is abusive.
Parents seem to think that the goal of education is independence of the family, so that a child, once grown up, is strong enough to face the world alone. It's abusive to withhold the protection and bonds of the family from a child, and not to provide a safe heaven for him or her for all their life, and the foundation for progress. Having a child start out at ground zero means denying him and her the knowledge and achievements of the family as a basis of his and her own life.
10. Exposing children to society's myths instead of reality is abusive.
The common 15-year-old of Western society dreams of hanging out at the mall as much as possible, dating boys or girls respectively, graduating from high school, being successful at some sports or another, and similar things. These have nothing to do with the reality of life, of raising a family, responsibility, stewardship and Kingdom building. If children are raised to see in these things the hight of happiness and freedom, reality will be a disappointment for them, to say the least. If they are raised to believe that fulfillment lies in spare time activities and consumerism, and in changing partners since "romantic love" usually doesn't survive very long, reality will hold nothing desirable for them. When it finally catches up on them, they will lead lives of quiet desperation, unprepared for reality as they are. Teaching children those myths destroys their ability to be happy with what God has planned for them and makes them easy prey for all kinds of false teaching and watcher theology. Responsible, godly parents will prepare their children for reality instead.
