On Idleness Part 4
Now what exactly is idleness today ? Everything that does not further God's Kingdom, but that serves men and his own ideas of good and evil. For what is not done as unto the Lord is unfruitful, and what is done in order to further man's will rather than God's will, is deceit. And when people are complaining about their work and spend all their free time on their so called hobbies, we cannot but wonder if all their business is not idleness in God's eyes. The bible has better advice for those times in which we work, as described above, better advice for those times in which we have "spare time", and certainly better advice for those times in which we are commanded to rest:
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Ti 2:15)"But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates" (Exo 20:10)
