On the Biblical Concept Of Purity

"The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes." (Psa 19:8)

Purity is an essential aspect of God's word, and by keeping His commandments and becoming pure by His grace, we are enlightened and filled with joy.

Purity is important in every field of life, also in sexual conduct. We are looking for pure women to join us in a plural marriage family, so let us look at how the bible defines what is meant by that.

The bible defines marriage as "becoming one flesh" and starting a family (Gen 2:24).

Marriage is a commitment for life (Mat 5:32; Rom 7:2-3), unless the wife defiles herself through sexual immorality, by committing adultery, which is the only valid reason for divorce and followed by the gravest punishment according to Mosaic law (Deu 22:22).

Purity in sexual conduct therefore means for a woman to remain a virgin until marriage and not to fornicate (Deu 22:20-21), and in marriage to remain faithful to her husband in every way, for life (1 Cor 7:10-11).

For a man, to be pure and follow God's commandments in respect to sexual conduct means to stand by his lifelong commitment he establishes with every woman he makes his wife by becoming one flesh with her, and not to commit adultery with another man's wife (Exo 20:17).

"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." (Heb 13:4)
